MYS Financial Aid Policy For Travel Players

This policy applies to players in MYS Travel programs including ECNL. There is a separate financial aid policy for MYS Recreation.

Subject to the availability of funds, MYS shall offer financial aid for MYS registration fees to those members that demonstrate financial hardship. The decision to make any award, the amount thereof, and the beneficiaries shall be made on a defined set of decision factors that are consistently applied under the circumstances. Notwithstanding the forgoing, all award decisions are made at the sole discretion of the MYS Travel Financial Aid Committee and the Executive Director. The application and aid information will be kept confidential within the MYS Financial Aid Committee and MYS staff members responsible for member accounts.

Application Process 

Applicants must create an account, register for Travel Teams Financial Aid, complete the required application questions, and upload necessary documentation - a signed copy of the most recent Federal tax return on Form 1040 (or applicable form i.e. Free and Reduced-Meal) for both parents of the applicant (supporting schedules and attachments are not required unless requested). Applicants must register the player on a timely basis in the MYS registration system each season. A commitment deposit of $50 must be made towards MYS registration fees before an aid application will be processed. This deposit goes towards the total player registration fee. Incomplete applications may result in disqualification and all MYS registration fees must be paid in full on a timely basis for the player to be eligible to participate in MYS team activities.

Applications will be evaluated by the Financial Aid Committee. The Committee shall present the proposed aid awards to the Executive Director and Finance Director for approval. Notification of aid award decisions shall be sent via email to each applicant.

Applications must be received no later than July 25, 2022 to be considered. Applications received early in the registration process may receive preferential consideration based on the availability of aid funds. Award decisions will be made periodically on a schedule determined by the Aid Committee. Players receiving offers after the deadline will have 30 days from the date of the offer to apply for aid.

Applications received by the July 25, 2022 deadline (or 30 days after offer date in the fall) will be considered for an award for both the fall and spring seasons. New players joining MYS for the spring season only will be considered for a spring aid award. All applicants must re-apply each fall season to be considered. Note that there will be no retroactive financial aid awarded for previous seasons registered/played.

Eligibility: Any MYS member is eligible to apply for financial aid. Qualification is primarily based on verified family income. Other factors such as unemployment or other financial hardships may also be considered by the Financial Aid Committee.

Amount of Aid Award: The MYS Board shall determine the amount of the financial aid available for a season; however, there is no obligation to award all/any of the award pool. Based on the amount of the award pool and the amount of requests for financial aid, awards will be made on a sliding scale based on verified family income. The maximum amount of an award to an individual shall not exceed the total fee for the particular program less the $50 acceptance deposit for each season.

Other Opportunities: MYS has a limited number of compensated positions (e.g., referees, field set up, training assistants, etc.) and volunteer positions (e.g., Rec coaches, tournament volunteers, etc.) which offer individuals an opportunity to cover registration costs or to give back to MYS.
